Joseph Piskulic Fall Ramblings

Another month and Joseph Piskulic launches into the fall with more ramblings. Business shifts in the fall every year… and the tempo changes at home and at the office. It’s worth thinking through what is happening with the workforce and how your team and coworkers transition with the seasons. At home, people are staying in more, spending more time with family flowing with the usual holidays and activities. You may hear from the team they are taking time off for the holidays or that people have had a great Halloween night. In Georgia, its apple picking season, something tons of families and people do to kick off the season and get into the fall mood. It’s a time to cozy up and slow down. This Blog Post sums up that feeling pretty well. https://nourishingeden.com/embracing-the-feelings-of-fall/.

Contrasted to the end of the year for a large business and these two worlds couldn’t be more different. Business is ramping up for end of the year financials, customer use the end of the year to benchmark milestones and critical deliveries. Combining the two is a challenge and I’ve found striking a balance between on time delivery and that fall feeling requires changes to operations at the end of the year. Here are a couple things I like to do to help with that balance.

  1. Bring the team together. Host an all hands to leverage that fall feeling of commoradarie. https://blog.hubspot.com/the-hustle/all-hands-meeting
  2. Spend more time with the team. Get more involved in the day to day.
  3. Take time to indulge in food or drink with the team. Sponsor formal or informal lunches and meals to channel the fall energy and leverage that feeling with your team and workforce.

In the end putting a more cozy and personal touch should help align your business goals. Although these two worlds feel significantly apart, I think these small changes focused on this time of the year really help with business results and team success.

Fall Ramblings complete.
